German Beer Garden Social,

The German Beer Garden Social at Growler Guys was a huge success, despite the rain that delayed it by a week showing up anyway. It took a lot of effort, and I'd love to thank everyone individually, but I'd leave someone out if I tried.

In terms of chores, someone had to coordinate with the Growler Guys staff (who gave us great deals on some good beer), somebody set up two awesome iron fire pits on protective pads and hauled in a load of firewood and stoked the flames all evening, and then hauled the leftovers out again along with said firepits (and somebody obtained a fire permit from Our Fair City), several somebodies set up four large pop-up tents to keep the rain out of my beer (end then un-popped them and hauled them away), somebody imported a marvelous and enormous grill for cooking brats and toasting buns, and somebody grilled continuously through the evening with nary a charred brat, somebody hauled in and set up four propane heaters to keep the cashiers and cooks from hypothermia, somebody procured over a hundred bratwurst and buns, mulled wine was concocted and kept simmering at the bar in borrowed crockpots that predate the Reagan era, served in custom mugs designed and ordered by somebody, somebody baked four score and more German chocolate cupcakes and frosted them with coconut-pecan deliciousness, somebody built rainproof sandwich boards with jazzy artwork designed, printed, and laminated by several somebodies -- artwork that invited sidewalk passers-by to come make friends and learn about Rotary.

And a happy crowd of somebodies showed up and socialized non-stop.

Our First German Beer Garden Social- December 7, 2019

On Saturday, December 7th, we hosted our first annual Rotary social - a German Beer Garden at Growler Guys, and what a success it was!  The lights illuminated the parking lot and the fire pits were roaring.  The smell of brats and mulled wine and the sound of music circulated for blocks!  We had a perfect mix of Rotarians and their families, and the general public attended.  We could not have been happier with the outcome.  We even got to roast smores!

Thank you to Pickled Planet for donating the amazing sauerkraut, Growler Guys for donating the location, wine and beer for the event, and Branson’s for the smores!  It was truly a wonderful night and an amazing team effort!
